Council on Aging Executive Director Pat Roberts, recently
accepted a donation in support of the Tai Chi Program from
Ken Dempsey of NorthShore Kitchens Plus. “When we met with
Ken, we shared some the benefits and the effectiveness of
the Tai Chi program, he graciously made a commitment
to sponsor the program through out the summer months and
perhaps beyond,” said Roberts. “When we review our
local commitments and contributions we like to help programs
already in existence, and found the Tai Chi program is an
asset to the community. Pat does a wonderful job with the
many programs and a sometimes limited budget”, said Dempsey.
“The 12 week curriculum introduces the
fundamental principles of Tai Chi, including proper
structural alignment, relaxed and mindful movement,
coordinated with breathing and imagery. Tai Chi
walking is also introduced. These movements are simple, yet
powerful and proven to strengthen and increase awareness of
mind and body, enhance and benefit natural flow, improve
health, personal development, and self-defense. Recent
medical research has shown Tia Chi can improve many aspects
of health including; balance, musculoskeletal strength and
flexibility, cardio-respiratory function, immune function
and emotional well being,” said instructor Regina Gibbons.
Gibbons is a Licensed Acupuncturist, and has practiced Tai
Chi and Qi Gong for more than 10 years. For more
